Donald Trump Rejects Government Transition, Joe Biden Worries More COVID-19 Casualties

Washington DC - Joe Biden has warned that "more and more people may die" if the next presidential administration continues to be thwarted by Donald Trump.

Speaking in Delaware, the US president-elect said coordination was needed to deal with the Corona COVID-19 Virus outbreak.

He reiterated President Trump's refusal to admit he had lost his voice, despite calls for doing so from both sides of the BBC on Tuesday.

"This is not a game," former first lady Michelle Obama wrote on social media.

President-elect Joe Biden has 306 votes in the electoral college, exceeding the 270 threshold needed to win. But Trump, a Republican, tweeted early Monday: "I won the election!"

The Trump campaign launched numerous legal challenges following the November 3 vote over the count.

The Public Service Administration (GSA), the government body tasked with initiating the transition process for the new president, has yet to recognize Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris as winners, leaving them without access to the sensitive government briefings normally given to incoming administrations.

Democratic presidential aides say Trump's refusal to make the transition also means Biden's team has been excluded from planning around a vaccination distribution strategy.

In his speech on Monday, Biden called the denials "utterly irresponsible".

"Does anyone understand this?" she says.

"It's about saving lives, really, this isn't hyperbole."

"More people might die if we don't coordinate," he said.

Calling national vaccine distribution a "big, huge undertaking", Biden said that if his team had to wait until January 20 - his presidential inauguration - until they could start working on the distribution program, they would be "more than a month, a month and a half" too late.

When asked if he would encourage the country's leaders to reimpose the stay-at-home order, the president-elect brushed it aside and instead asked officials to encourage the use of masks.
