2020 US election: Sarah McBride becomes first transgender senator
Democrat Sarah McBride became the first transgender to serve as a US senator, after declaring victory in the State of Delaware.
He defeated Republican candidate Steve Washington in a race for the seat of Harris McDowell, an expiring Democratic senator.
McBride, 30, worked as the media secretary for the LGBT advocacy group, the Human Rights Campaign, and was an intern at the White House during Barack Obama's administration.
He is now the top notch transgender official in the US.
Elsewhere, Taylor Small, 26, will become the first transgender from the State of Vermont to become a member of parliament after winning the 2020 elections.
At News York, Ritchie Torres, 32, will become the first gay black member of Congress.
And he is expected to run alongside another gay candidate from New York, Mondaire Jones, whose election results are yet to come out.
Meanwhile, Republican member Madison Cawthorn, 25, wins in North Carolina to become the first member of Congress born in the 1990s.
And after securing a seat in Georgia, Marjorie Taylor Greene, 46, was labeled by the US media as "the first US legislator to publicly endorse the QAnon conspiracy theory."
QAnon is at its heart a broad and baseless conspiracy theory, claiming US President Donald Trump is waging a secret war against a satanic pedophile elite in governments, companies and the media.
Greene admitted to shunning the QAnon conspiracy theory in an interview with Fox News in August.
She also confessed to breaking another record - becoming the first woman to represent Northwest Georgia in Congress.
Finally, astronaut Mark Kelly was elected a senator representing Arizona. But he is not the first former astronaut to occupy a Senate seat. Former Ohio senator John Glenn was the first ex-astronaut in the Senate when elected in 1974 and served until 1999.
